Yuki Kawaguchi Returns To Shonen Jump With New Manga Years After The Hunters Guild: Red Hood Got Axed

Yuki Kawaguchi, the creator behind The Hunters Guild: Red Hood, is making a comeback in Weekly Shonen Jump with a brand-new manga titled Otr Of The Flame.

Set to debut on May 11, 2025, the series follows the journey of a kind-hearted cook who may awaken the spirit of a warrior within himself. The manga will be simulpub on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app, with translations handled by Dan Luffey (One Punch Man, You & I Are Polar Opposites) and lettering by Sabrina Heep.

This announcement marks Kawaguchi’s return to Shonen Jump after the abrupt end of The Hunters Guild: Red Hood in 2021.

The Hunter’s Guild: Red Hood was canceled after just 18 chapters, a conclusion that left many of its fans disappointed. The final chapters of Red Hood even incorporated a meta-narrative, where characters explicitly acknowledged the series’ impending conclusion.

Adding to this unusual ending, an elderly character in Red Hood suggested a simple end to the story, “Not a happy ending. Not a tragic ending. Just an end to everything.”

Despite its short run, The Hunters Guild: Red Hood garnered a following.

Kawaguchi’s return with Otr Of The Flame has generated anticipation among manga fans, who are hopeful for a longer run for the new series.
