A One Piece animator has sparked fresh controversy online after publicly calling for the dismissal of the anime’s sound team, criticizing their work as unprofessional.
Animator Sota Shigetsugu, known for his contributions to One Piece, took to X on April 28 to express frustration with the anime’s audio production.
“I think Toei should urgently dismiss the sound team of One Piece. That’s not the work of professionals,” he wrote in a now-deleted post.
Though the tweet was quickly removed, screenshots circulated widely.
This isn’t the first time Shigetsugu has criticized the anime’s sound design.
In 2024, he made a similar post on X, stating, “The sound in One Piece is devastatingly bad, so I hope something is done about it as soon as possible… This episode was really sad because of the difference between the overwhelming animation and the terrible sound.”
Toei Animation has yet to respond publicly to these criticisms.
