The Dragon Ball franchise achieved a historic milestone for Bandai Namco Holdings, generating a record 190.6 billion yen in sales for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, according to the financial statements released by Bandai Namco on May 8, 2025.
This makes Dragon Ball the company’s first intellectual property (IP) to surpass the 190 billion yen mark in a single fiscal year. It had earned 140.6 billion yen in the previous fiscal year.
The success of Dragon Ball was significantly fueled by multiple factors, prominently including the video game Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. The title became the fastest-selling Dragon Ball console game to date, with sales reaching 5.4 million units worldwide.
Other contributing elements included the release of new anime content such as Dragon Ball Daima, strong ongoing performance from smartphone games like Dragon Ball Legends, and the sales of toys and hobby goods.
Mobile Suit Gundam also set a new record with 153.5 billion yen in sales, up from 145.7 billion yen in FY2024. One Piece followed, achieving its own new peak with 139.5 billion yen in revenue, an increase from 112.1 billion yen in the prior fiscal year.
Almost half of Gundam‘s sales came from the Toys and Hobby section (75.7 billion yen) due to the consistent popularity of its model kits (Gunpla).
One Piece, on the other hand, performed strongly through sales of IP-related goods and its mobile game offerings.
Thanks to the strong performances these franchises, Bandai Namco reported consolidated net sales of 1,241.5 billion yen (1.24 trillion yen) for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, an 18.2% increase year-on-year. Operating profit saw a substantial rise to approximately 180.2 billion yen, up 98.7% from the previous year.
The Digital Business, which includes video games, reported a remarkable 1095.1% surge in operating profit to 68.5 billion yen and a 22.3% increase in net sales to 455.6 billion yen for the financial year.
The Toys and Hobby Business also showed robust progress, with operating profit rising 29.9% to 102.2 billion yen on sales of 596.9 billion yen (up 17.1% YoY).
The global appeal of Bandai Namco’s IPs was also evident in regional sales figures. Net sales in the Americas grew by an impressive 53.7% year-over-year to 140.5 billion yen, while Europe saw a 22.2% increase to 125.8 billion yen, and Asia (excluding Japan) grew by 11.1% to 108.1 billion yen.
Looking ahead to the fiscal year ending March 2026 (FY2026.3), Bandai Namco projects Dragon Ball sales to be 150.0 billion yen. While this indicates a moderation from its current historic peak, it remains a very strong figure. Conversely, the company forecasts continued growth for Mobile Suit Gundam, with projected sales of 160.0 billion yen, and expects One Piece to maintain its momentum with 140.0 billion yen in sales.
