Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle: Part 1 Akaza’s Return has earned 36.4 billion yen and drawn 25.11 million viewers in its first 88 days of release, leaving it just 4.3 billion yen short of surpassing Demon Slayer: Mugen Train’s record of 40.75 billion yen.
The film has outpaced Mugen Train at nearly every key milestone. Infinity Castle Part 1 reached 36.4 billion yen in 88 days, while Mugen Train took 101 days to surpass 36.5 billion yen.
Earlier milestones also highlight this trend: Infinity Castle crossed 10 billion yen in 8 days (vs. 10 days for Mugen Train), 20 billion in 23 days (vs. 24 days), and 30 billion in 46 days (vs. 59 days). Its opening weekend set multiple records, including highest-grossing opening day, opening weekend, and single-day revenue, with 5.52 billion yen earned in its first three days.
While Infinity Castle is still trailing behind Mugen Train in Japan, it has set new international records.
Globally, the film is the highest-earning anime film of all time and the highest-grossing Japanese film, with an estimated total of USD648 million as of Oct 12. According to Box Office Mojo, this makes it the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2025.
The film is the first installment of a planned cinematic trilogy that was announced to adapt the final saga of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga by Koyoharu Gotouge.
The plot followed the Demon Slayer Corps’ infiltration of the titular dimensional fortress to launch a final assault on the series’ antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji.
