Cross-dressing Shoujo Manga Hana-Kimi Confirms Long-Awaited Anime Adaptation

Anime streaming giant, Crunchyroll, released a new trailer for Hana-Kimi’s first-ever anime adaptation. The anime will be arriving on Crunchyroll on Jan 4, 2026.

The anime is based on the famous manga series, Hana-Kimi, short for Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, written and illustrated by Hisaya Nakajo.

The plot follows Mizuki Ashiya, who disguises herself as a boy and enrolls in his exclusive all-male boarding school to get close to her idol, the gifted but retired high jumper Izumi Sano. Now Sano’s roommate, Mizuki must navigate the challenges of school life and try to convince him to jump again, all while desperately trying to keep her true gender a secret.

The series will be airing worldwide, excluding Asia, but including India.

The manga was serialized in Japan in the semi-monthly shoujo magazine Hana to Yume by Hakusensha. The series ended with volume 23 in November 2004 and was published in English by Viz Media. The final volume was released in the United States in April 2008.
