Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Debuts At #1 Breaking Demon Slayer Infinity Castle’s Streak

The Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc movie has debuted No. 1 at the Japanese box office, ending the nine-week streak of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

Released nationwide in 421 theaters on Sep 19, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc opened with 272,000 viewers and earned 420 million yen on its first day.

The film went on to draw 807,000 viewers and earned 1.251 billion yen over its opening weekend. In comparison, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which is currently in its 10th weekend, attracted 390,000 viewers and earned 645 million yen in the same period. It has, however, amassed 23.6 million viewers and 34 billion yen over 66 days in theaters.

Distributor Toho projects that the movie could reach a total box office of 5 billion yen. It only needs to earn 2.15 billion yen in the Japanese box office to recoup the amount that was invested in it.

The film is produced by MAPPA, directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, who previously helmed episodes 4 and 10 of the Chainsaw Man anime, and written by Hiroshi Seko. Yoshihara replaces Ryu Nakayama who helmed the first season of the anime.

Outside Japan, Crunchyroll will distribute the film through Sony Pictures Releasing, with premieres in select Asian markets starting Sep 24 and a worldwide release scheduled for Oct 24, 2025.

Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc will release in India on Sep 26.
