Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Movie Set To Top North America Box Office In Opening Weekend

Early box office projections have indicated that Sony and Crunchyroll’s Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc is poised to lead the North American box office for the weekend of Oct 24-26, 2025.

According to box-office analysts, the anime film’s weekend estimates range from USD11 million to over USD14 million. The film earned $3.4 million from Thursday preview screenings, which began at 4 p.m. in 2,500 locations. By Friday, its total gross was estimated to be USD8 million, setting it on pace to top the weekend charts.

The film’s debut is expected to beat several other new wide releases, including the Bruce Springsteen biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and Paramount’s adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel Regretting You. It is also set to outperform the second-weekend gross of Universal and Blumhouse’s Black Phone 2, with all these movies expected to rake in somewhere between USD10-12 million.

While the projected opening for the Chainsaw Man film is significant, it is not near the record-setting USD70.6 million North American debut of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle.

Analysts were cautious with their the weekend projections for Reze Arc though, as the first game of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays is scheduled for Saturday. Los Angeles is reportedly the top domestic market for anime films, and the game is expected to impact ticket sales in the region.

That aside, the Chainsaw Man film’s opening was supported by strong critical and audience reception. Reze Arc held a 100% approval rating from 18 critics on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The ratings currently stand at 96% from 24 reviews.

Prior to its North American debut, the movie had topped the Japanese box office for five consecutive weeks. In Japan, it sold 4.26 million tickets and earned a cumulative total of 6.5 billion yen. Its total estimated global earnings have reached USD68.3 million.

The rave reviews for the film have noted a distinct change in the artistic style, Reze Arc‘s film adaptation said to be closer to the manga’s overall tone and pacing, as opposed to the first season of the Chainsaw Man anime, which had a more arthouse feel to it.

For the Reze Arc movie, MAPPA replaced Season 1 director Ryu Nakayama with Tatsuya Yoshihara.
